Like every other year of college for me, this year--particularly this semester--has flown by. It seems like just yesterday that I stepped into the comfy confines of the HSSTM office.
With finals approaching, papers to write and stuff to do around the office, this is no time to be a sap bag and reflect. For gosh sakes, spring sports are just getting under way.
Baseball and softball have been going on for a week or so now, but boys and girls track and girls tennis are now hitting full stride as well.
I know Park Tudor comes to mind when girls tennis is being talked about, but there are many other good teams in the area, including North Central, Perry Meridian, Carmel, Cathedral and Zionsville.
As far as softball goes, the Central Indiana softball teams are well represented in the early coaches' polls thus far. The Class 4A is packed with local teams: Pendleton Heights, HSE, Avon, Center Grove and Martinsville. New Pal and Brebeuf are among the Top 10 in the 3A poll while Scecina and Lutheran have claimed the top spots in the 2A and 1A polls, respectively.
There are an unbelievable amount of good baseball games this Thursday, too, most notably Center Grove at North Central and Brebeuf at Howe. Brebeuf just earned the top spot in the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association 3A poll, so look for the Braves to try and continue their winning ways.
Speaking of earning top spots in polls, Carmel did likewise as it grabbed the top spot in the 4A poll. Carmel next plays Monday against Zionsville. As if winning the boys state championship was enough, Brownsburg is now ranked No. 3 in the same poll as Carmel. Brownsburg nation has had quite the past couple months, hasn't it?
And for the really adventurous out there, rugby and lacrosse are throwing down, too.
Finally, I'd just like to remind everyone that the INTERN had the best bracket in the office. I was ruled out of it roughly one week ago, but since I had Kansas winning it all, I was able to take away the most important thing thus far in my internship: bragging rights among the HSSTM staff. Please feel free to send your sorrowing thoughts to The Mind and Moore's Musings, I'm sure they'll love it.
